Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves. It’s based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves, which can feel difficult to change. We might also think of this as self-confidence.

Like we say, this is a problem not only in the USA, but all over the world. Some countries have sufferers even more than others.

There was a survey taken about a year ago, to determine how many individuals, by country suffer with low self-esteem. The countries in the survey’s top 10 list for self-esteem are:

  • Chile
  • Israel
  • Peru
  • Estonia
  • U.S.
  • Turkey
  • Mexico
  • Japan

Serbia is Tops, Japan ranks the lowest on the list, with the USA holding down the number six position.

Self-esteem was measured this way: anonymous surveys were given around the globe to 17,000 folks in 53 nations and also translated into 28 languages.

According to recent studies, self-esteem consists of three elements: unconditional love, unconditional worth and self growth — “a deep, quiet inner security that is not easily shaken when under pressure or after a ‘not so good’ performance, regarding whatever it is you’re trying to achieve.”

Research has found positive links between healthy self-esteem and many desirable outcomes, including happiness, humility, resilience and optimism.

Studies show that low self-esteem is related to stress, depression and anxiety.

The three types of self-esteem are ‘sense of superiority,’ ‘others approval,’ and ‘uniqueness.’

1) A superiority complex is a belief that your abilities or accomplishments are somehow dramatically better than other people’s.

People with a superiority complex may be condescending, smug, or mean to other people who don’t agree with them.

2) Validation is a common need most of us experience. But like any behavior, validation-seeking exists on a spectrum — from the less harmful habit of impressing someone or occasionally compromising with others to keep the peace to the more harmful one of ignoring our rights and enduring abuse to avoid abandonment.

3) Uniqueness is the quality of being unlike anything else of its kind or of being solitary in type or characteristics.

Boys seem to score higher than girls regarding self-esteem during adolescence.

(So girls, taking a shot at boosting your self-esteem never hurts).

One possible explanation for this difference is gender roles.

Many qualities associated with the male role are consistent with high esteem. In addition, self-confidence is a stereo typically masculine trait.

What is lack of self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is when someone lacks confidence about who they are and what they can do.

They often feel incompetent, unloved, or inadequate. People who struggle with low self-esteem are consistently afraid about making mistakes or letting other people down.

Many folks deal with self-esteem and don’t know how to handle it. They just try to deal with it because they feel any adjustment in their lives would be a ‘wash out.’ (No room for improvement.)

When you really think about it, you can say your low self-esteem probably started when you were very young. Maybe you were bullied in school and could never defend yourself.

Later, it would make you feel like shit. Friends making fun of you on a constant basis.

Even our own parents, siblings and teachers put you down. And lets not forget the TV media and online social media platforms, that blast out positive and negative messages about ourselves.

(It seems like the only messages that tend to stick in our heads our the negative ones).

Try looking at life in a positive manner. Sometime a person’s situation can get so stressed out, it can bring on ‘anxiety’ issues. (Then you’ll have another issue to fix in your life).

But there’s always help in the field of curing anxiety as well. Remember, life isn’t always peaches & cream! There’s going to be bumps along the way.


Seek out all the help you can in regard to improving your self-esteem and dealing with the phobia of anxiety or even commitment. But most importantly, just keep in mind that “It’s NEVER Too Late For Change!”
